About Us

Founded as the Health Professions Club in 1971 at Howard, the Health Professions Society is an organization geared towards assisting pre-health students who plan on pursuing a career in the medical field. The Health Professions Society is the Howard MAPS chapter. MAPS is the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students and it represents the current undergraduate students of SNMA (The Student National Medical Association). The organization has many opportunities for students to get resources needed to help them along their medical journey. Our goal is to expose pre-professional students at Howard University to a variety of activities and opportunities that will help them become competitive candidates for Health Professions Schools. Our membership consists of students who are interested in fields including but not limited to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, optometry, osteopathic medicine, public health, and graduate school.

We accomplish our goals through monthly general body meetings, special medical school events, MCAT prep, networking opportunities and academic advising. Students are able to interact with their peers and other health oriented individuals and gain valuable exposure to health professions and related fields. Through HPS, members are fully equipped to apply to medical school as well as matriculate. With ample resources as well as guidance, we help facilitate the success of our members in becoming future leaders in healthcare.​​​​
